Sequoia Middle School wins the Whitney League

WOODLAKE, CA. The Lady Hawks have achieved an undefeated season with a remarkable victory in the 2023 Whitney League Tournament finals. The team played confidently and relentlessly, overpowering Los Tules Middle School 25-8, 25-12 in the semifinals and SCIA 25-15, 25-15 in the championship match.

An extraordinary performance led Sequoia from outside hitters Alexa Ramirez and Regan Hildreth, middle blocker Isis Hunt, and libero Chevy Love. Their solid teamwork, combined with setters Kamlynn Newlyn and Aubrey Johnson, alongside defensive specialists Kendall Price and Layla Valles, set up the Sequoia attack and kept the pressure on their opponents.

The Lady Hawks' left-side hitting was relentless, with Alexa Ramirez and Regan Hildreth scoring many powerful spikes for points and perfectly placed tips that kept the defense off balance. The team's middle blockers, Isis Hunt and Gloria Ruiz, dominated the net with several spikes and tipping-back overpasses for points.

Sequoia utilized its serves as a team to keep the pressure on SCIA, and Regan Hildreth ran nine serves

in a row, while Chevy Love served eight in the championship match. Each player served the ball so hard that it led to bad passes and aces, and a couple of serves hit the top of the net and luckily fell on the opponent’s side of the court for Sequoia points. Kamlynn Newlyn, Alexa Ramirez, and Kendall Price served consistently for the Lady Hawks.

Overall, Sequoia played as a united and focused team, with each player knowing how their talent and skills fit into the team’s success. The Lady Hawks have set an impressive record this season, and their victory in the Whitney League Tournament finals is a testament to their hard work and dedication.
